The First World Congress of Imams and Rabbis for Peace has opened in Brussels.
The four-day meeting of more than 150 leaders of Islam and Judaism will focus on similarities between the two religions on historical, archaeological and cultural grounds.
They will also discuss the root causes of tension between Muslims and Jews and the possibility of carrying out regular dialogues and establishing partnership between the two faiths to promote world peace, especially in the Middle East.
Leaders of other religions as well as non-religious believers are also invited to attend the meeting as observers.
